1. Name of the Department: Sociology
2. Year of Establishment: The Department of Sociology has been a torchbearer of societal understanding, initiating Undergraduate (UG) studies in 1949 and expanding to include Postgraduate (PG) studies in 1951.
3. Programmes Offered: The department offers a comprehensive array of academic programs, encompassing Undergraduate (UG), Postgraduate (PG), and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) courses. This holistic approach caters to students at various educational levels, fostering a deep understanding of societal structures.
4. Interdisciplinary Exploration: Currently, the department does not offer interdisciplinary courses. Nevertheless, it remains dedicated to the in-depth exploration of sociology, delving into the complexities of human behavior, institutions, and societal interactions.
5. Academic Framework: The Undergraduate and Postgraduate programs operate on a Semester system, providing students with a structured and dynamic learning experience. This approach ensures a comprehensive study of sociology, covering both theoretical frameworks and practical applications.
6. Collaborative Initiatives: At present, the department is not actively engaged in courses offered by other departments. However, it fosters a collaborative spirit within the field of sociology, encouraging faculty and students to engage in interdisciplinary discussions and contribute to the broader academic community.
7. Global Perspectives: Currently, there are no courses in collaboration with other universities, industries, or foreign institutions. However, the department remains open to future collaborations that could bring diverse perspectives on sociological studies, enhancing research opportunities and providing students with a global understanding of societal dynamics.
In essence, the Department of Sociology, with a legacy spanning over seven decades, remains committed to unraveling the intricacies of human societies.
